Homemade Recipe for Oatmeal Facial Scrub

An oatmeal scrub is a gentle and natural way to remove dead skin.

Ingredients:

1. Distilled or Reverse Osmosis Water
2. Oatmeal
3. Bowl
4. Milk or yogurt [liquid form](optional)

Instructions:

1. Add water to plain oatmeal and mix it until it becomes a paste. (yucky looking I know)

2. Scrub on face in a circular motion and make sure to rinse away completely.

OR

(Optional)

1. For added moisturizing and cleansing effect on your pours, mix in milk or yogurt instead or water into the oatmeal.

2. Mix it well until it becomes a paste. (same as above... yuck!)

3. Leave on your face as a mask for 5 minutes and rise off well.

(Note: I have tried this and if you have oily skin on your face I would suggest just using low fat milk. The added cream in the dairy will cause you to break out on your face if you have oily or really sensitive skin.

HOWEVER! it is alright to use it for your body. But I have another recipe for that)

See you soon!

Inglot Eyeliner, Eye Shadow, Lip Gloss & Lipstick Review! [REVIEW & SWATCHES]

The EYE SHADOW!

The green light shimmer eye shadow… love this color, it has that apple shade.

The pink light shimmer eye shadow… once you put it on its slightly darker than pot itself.

And the brown… while it looks quite light here its actually very dark and almost black. If I had to compare it, I’d say it’s almost similar to MAC’s eyeshadow in “Brun”.

PROS: Highly pigmented, cheap and lasts!
CONS: None that I can think of.

Eyeshadow Code: 1st - D.S.477 (green), 2nd - AMC Shine 48 (pink) & 3rd - Matte 329 (brown)
Retails: RM 28 each

The LIPSTICK!

It’s a pale, pale pink and its most suitable for when you’re using dark eyeshadows. It has a nude effect without being beige.

It’s moisturising so it doesn’t dry out your lips (seriously important to me) and it lasts quite long. So it’s not imperative that you wear a lip balm before applying the lipstick.

PROS: creamy, hydrating, doesn't chap my lips and beautifully nude.
CONS: May be a bit costly and has a slight sweet smell brand new.

Lipstick Code: 121
Retails: RM 50

The LIPGLOSS!

Swatch above

This lipgloss is the gooey type. It gives a slight pumping effect to your lips. As you can see I got the shimmer type. But I have to say it’s not too bad, I can use this gloss for the day. It doesn’t give you the look as if you’re wearing sparkles on your lips. Also this colour is deceiving.

For your information: I can’t really wear orange. Most of the time if I wear orange I look slightly off… but oh but how I love the colour and I’m green with envy every time I see someone with fair complexion wearing the colour and looking so lovely in it.

See... people who look beautiful in orange lipstick/gloss

But I have to look no more… while this is isn’t in your face orange… it is still a shade of orange.

SEE! LOVE IT!

On me!

PROS: Highly pigmented, lasting power and doesn't chap my lips!
CONS: Don't really like the application tip but its manageable.

Lipgloss Code: 45
Retails: RM 44

The EYELINER!

I am so in love with this pencil! It’s so cheap & pigmented! I’ve been hunting for such a long time but I could not find a good White eye pencil. Most pencils has a very light white line when you draw it on your hand and if you use it on your eye you almost can’t see the effect. In which case what is the point of even wearing one? This on the other hand, when I draw it on my water line its visible, even after a few hours with very little to no smudging.

So love it!

PROS: Highly pigmented & super white, extremely cheap for quality and has great lasting power.
CONS: Nothing

Eyeliner Code: 31
Retails: RM 38

Lash Works [TIPS]

Eyelash curler trick for a natural-looking curve!
Curl lashes at the roots, then pump the curler very lightly as you walk it toward the tips.

For super curls, heat your curler with a blow-dryer for a few seconds before curling. It’s almost like a heated curler!

If you have poker-straight lashes, try a waterproof mascara, which locks the curl into your lashes better than a regular formula.

Make your lashes pop by applying a coat of lengthening mascara, followed by one coat of thickening mascara.

Make your eyes seem wider, apply to your bottom lashes too. It's easier to do your bottom lashes before your top, rather than vice versa. However I prefer to do my top lashes first then the bottom.

For fuller and thicker lashes Wiggle the mascara wand in a zig-zag direction from the roots of your lashes to the tips. This separates your lashes and makes them appear fuller and thicker. It also coats your lashes more thoroughly.

Erase any smudges easily with a cotton bud dipped in a mild eye makeup remover. (Its best if you don’t use an natural olive oil blend because it leaves an oily residue.)

Place a card or if you have none on hand your finger between your eye lash and your skin to shield you eyelids from smudges or mistake.

Making a mascara mistake! quickly and gently remove the mistake with a cotton bud while the product is still wet. Do not wait until later because any product left on your skin would dry. Dried products are harder to remove!

When applying mascara look down at a 45 degree angle for an easier application and your hard slightly tilted.

Facing reality… [TIPS]

The first thing anyone (and I mean anyone) need to do in order to choose the right product or makeup is to face reality.

If you have big crater sized pores face it,

If you have blackheads on your face, face it,

If you have dark circles face it,

If you have wrinkles even at such a young age face it,

If you have dry skin face it,

If you have small eyes face it,

If you are excessively hairy face it,

Wishing it would go away would not help!

Complaining about it won’t help!

So who can help you?

You! The only who can help you if you yourself and the first step to helping yourself is acknowledging that you have these problems.

Next, if possible find the source of your problem.

Lastly, identify your budget and will power to find the right solution to your problem. Experiment and be brave to try out new things. I have to be honest sometimes experimenting can go wrong and sometimes it goes so well you find the product that is best suited for you.

The advice that I and others give will only help you if you take an active step in rectifying your problem and it’s important to remember that it only serves as guidance. Everyone is different (I mean that quite literally) I’m not all knowing and all seeing. I write and state what I myself have gone through, learned and observed.

That being said I hope you subscribe and be my follower for this blog. It would mean so much to me and it’s my daily motivation to put up new posts. To know that what I’ve said actually helped somebody.

L'oreal Ultra-Volume Collagene [REVIEW]

If you are a female you want great eye lashes. Why you say? Because! It makes your eyes look bigger, sexier and well... frankly more attractive. I know I want great lashes. Don't you? And if we are one of those that are unfortunate enough to be born with either short and thin lashes well what can we do than to nothing more than to rely on a good mascara.

However the problem comes when we need to find that elusive mascara that will give us the perfect eye lashes that are shown in commercials (mind you no amount of mascara will increase the number of lashes). I say look no more. For the L'oreal Collagen Extreme" is the solution and answer to your prayers. Well at least for persons who have long but thin lashes.

I have been looking for quite some time for a mascara that is cheap and performs. This baby makes my eyelashes look like a baby doll and boy do I love it. I had this conversation with some friends and they mentioned that my eyelashes (L'oreal ) was capable of causing a sand storm. and after thinking about it I agreed! but then I had a a more high end mascara that is capable of causing a hurricane.... I have yet to find one that is capable of causing a tornado!

And... there you have it, Hence forth when I describe a mascara as being capable of a sand storm you should know what I mean. XD

Back to the mascara, I would say that this mascara has a decent sized brush though a bit on the larger side. It is decent to use on the lower lashes. Though it may cause some smudges if you are not used to it, it's also waterproof. You might need a decent makeup remover to get the mascara off. Meaning Johnson Baby Oil might not do the trick, however there are some brands that I have tried that works, they are,

1. L'oreal Eye Makeup Remover
2. Eture Eye and Lip Makeup Remover
3. Revlon Makeup Remover
4. And all the High End brand's makeup remover.

However I have found that 100ml olive oil infused with 3 drops of lavender essential oil does the trick quite well.

It also has a problem of clumping. However I have found that this is one of those mascaras that would function like new once the brush is washed every 20 applications or so. You can wash the brush with a few drop of makeup remover mixed in with soap.
I also find that after one month of using this mascara that it had yet to develop the spidery effect.

Looking at the overall performance of this mascara i would give it a 7/10.

Its great & its cheap what more could you want?

Pros: Cheap, great volumising effect, works on one coat but looks fantastic with several more coats of mascara, works like new when brush is cleaned.

Cons: clumps up after 15 uses, does not lengthen, the brush clumps up, a little bit difficult to apply on the lower lashes.

Sweat With Style [TIPS]

Do you only have time to go to the gym to have a workout in the middle of the day, after work or even after school? What about before you go out for the evening?

If you want to workout, but look good enough to go out at night or go back to work?

There are small and simple things you can do to prevent having to go through your whole primping routine twice a day.

You can…-

Put your hair up before you workout! Smooth it into a ponytail and either braid or bun it.

Wear a headband too! It absorbs sweat and help keep flyaways out of your face.

When you’re done with your work out, keep your hair up in the shower. When you take it down, the braid will leave you with loose waves.

However I know that to many of you the thought of not washing your hair after a workout is gross… so I won’t push this XD. But I thought I’d put it up so that those of you who are truly in a pickle still have an option!

IMPORTANT!

Take off all makeup before you hit the gym. This will prevent your pores from getting clogged. Despite what your makeup says… it still will clog your pores… just think all that dirt and sweat… sheesh.. X(

Post workout (after workout) splash cold water on your face to take away redness and make your pores smaller. But REMEMBER! Make sure you only do this after you’ve cool down. By this I mean that you have stopped sweating.

Because Malaysia has tropical weather if you splash water on your skin when you are still sweating you risk getting “Panau” or “Tinea Versicolor” (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0002436/). Now I do not know this for a fact (as I’m not a Doctor) but this is what Doctor’s tend to say caused it. (At least that is what I observe).

Your blood is pumping, so don’t rub or scrub your face excessively it may cause you to break out. Try patting or use slow smooth strokes when you wash.

Lastly… your cheeks will have a natural flush so skip the blush and keep the rest of your makeup simple. Your facial pores are still likely open… (especially if you have big pores… sorry girls its reality face it) putting on heavy products at this time could clog up your pores.

So work out! Have fun! and… Still look good!

Eye spy... secrets... [TIPS]

To conceal undereye circles, start by dotting concealer on the inner and middle area, then pat with your ring finger to blend. It helps if you first “warm up” your concealer on the back of your hand before applying.

The solution to creased eyeshadow: try an eye primer! I recommended it. I love Urban Decay’s Primer Potion... this is especially good if you have oily eye lids or if your eye lids are the type that gets oily as the day goes by. You'll find that any eye makeup you apply afterwards stays in place much longer.

Try out this fool-proof way to line your eyes instead of a single stroke, by pencil or brush try to instead draw a series of dashes with your liner along the lashline, then connect the dots or if you are more confortmble with strokes go for it!

For long-lasting eyeliner that lasts day to night! Trace over your eyes liner with a stiff-bristled shadow brush dipped in dark shadow or you could try some gel eye liners i the market that lasts the whole day. The downside though is that it tougher than usual to take off and it may sometimes stiffen your lashes if you’re the type who likes the lines as close to the lashes as possible.

Shimmer shadows are fun to wear, but did you know it also emphasizes heavy lids and fine lines?! Choose matte if you have puffy, swollen or wrinkled lids, and use shimmer as a highlighter instead on the brow bone.

Brighten your eyes by sweeping a dot of pale shimmery shadow at the inner corners or you use a white eyeliner on your water line instead!

Must Know Beauty Steps About... FACE! [TIPS]

One...

Always make sure to prep your skin with toner followed with moisturiser before you start putting anything else on your face, even if you have oily skin.

Otherwise it will emphasize your pores and cause to skin to dry even if the surface if oily!

Two...

Shu Uemura UV Under Base SPF 15

If you have it, continue prepping your skin with primer or base before foundation. It’s not disastrous if you don’t have any but it would certainly make your makeup last longer and give your face a more flawless finish.

Three...

Estee Lauder Smoothing Cream Concealer

Make your concealer blend better by rubbing it on the back of your hand. It causes your concealer to warm up and it smooths on better.

Four...

Barely there finish (also known to some as natural looking makeup), spot apply foundation only where you need it.

By spot apply I mean area where your skin is even skin toned, red, marked or scarred.

Five...

MAC Pot Concealer

What’s the best way to camouflage a blemish?

Personally I would think a pot concealer that has a think consistency,

Don’t have it?

Try instead to use the thickened base collected in the cap of your foundation. Dap and blend on the blemish with your finger or concealer brush and set it with power.

Six...

How to prevent powder from streaking or settling into lines?

Dab your powder puff into loose powder, dust off the excess and then press not swipe on the face.

Seven...

Sephora Blotter Paper

Get rid of mid-day shine by nixing excess sebum or oil with a blotter or if in emergencies tissues before touching up with a pressed or loose powder otherwise your face might look cakey

The Basics of Foundation [TUTORIAL]

The Basics of Foundation

To all you newbies out there who are just foraying into the world of makeup… this blog is to give you an idea of the types of foundation available and make you ponder about the type of looks that you might want to consider trying out.

There are many kinds of foundation…

The Liquid... the most widely known and seen

Christian Dior Extreme Fit Foundation - I love this product! Unfortunately they have discontinued it in Malaysia. Although if you're lucky... some DIOR counters may still have some of their old stock left, so hurry!

The Compact…

Christian Dior Diorskin Nude Compact Foundation Cafe Moka

The Tube…

Bobbi's Essentials Foundation Stick

The Mousse…

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse Foundation

The Spray… though I’ve only seen this once. I believe its quite rare and almost none existent in certain countries

Christian Dior AirFlash Foundation

The Mineral…

Bare Escentuals Mineral Foundation

Now before you go off and decide on a type that you want to start with, you might first like to take the time to look at magazines pictures, makeup advertorials, movies or advertisement for an inspiration or idea.

Then consider the kind of look do you like and want to achieve. However in deciding this a dose of reality is needed because at the end of the day the skin type of each individual differs and it would have to come down to what are you willing to compromise on to get a closely similar look.

Now before I go on I’d like to give you a brief purvue of what I’ve been using. Once upon a time ago when I was 13 years old I started with compact powders. Now why would I need to use this? Well at that time I had good clear skin and was just breaking into puberty and had yet to deal with acne and the sort.

2 years later at 15 years old I changed to the compact foundation. Why again you ask? It was because I still had very youthful skin that could and would regenerate fast and well. I also had good collagen in my skin still doing its wonderful work. This compact foundation gave me the coverage I need to have a flawless looking skin when I was out with my friend and going out to parties.

It was not until I turned 17 years old that I started using liquid foundation. Though that this time I still relied heavily on my compact foundation. But at 17 years old my skin was changing. It was becoming more ache prone especially dealing with the stress of college exams.

Back to the Foundation….

In the family of foundation there 3 type of coverage that it generally gives. The light, medium and full coverage.

To put in a nut shell, the light coverage covers almost nothing and gives you a very very light sheen. This foundation is good for people with flawless skin a.k.a. unblemished/dark circled skin.

If you are buying a foundation to use because you want you even you skin complexion , hide those nasty scars, acne, blemishes, pores, dark circles and wrinkles then I would suggest that you try the medium to full coverage foundation.

The full coverage foundation being what it is… it covers imperfections up.

Next thing you need to know about liquid foundations, there are water based foundation and oil based foundation. By right the water based foundation would be better for problem skins however up to date I have yet to find a water based foundation that DOES ITS JOB and give me a medium coverage with the exception of Bobby Brown’s Skin Foundation SPF 15 PA+.

The Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15

However... even this foundation has its limitations... it doesn't stay on your skin all that long, meaning if you wear it to work its not gonna last till 5pm. But if you have sensitive skin and don't actually need the foundation on all that long I would say give this foundation a shot.

The Tube Foundation… I find this a bit hard to blend in a rush without hurting my face. But saying that its handy to have in your purse. Overall however unless you are willing to spend time blending this one out I’d say you just stick with the liquid foundation.

The mousse… I love this L’oreal Brand. It had a matte finish to the end result. However the problem is that it was a bit too strenuous for my face. I found that if I used this product on a daily basis I tend to break out in acne.

The Spray… sorry guys I can't really give you a review on this because I’ve never actually gotten the change to try it out. To my knowledge it’s not available in Malaysia and it was too expensive when I say it in Brisbane, Australia. If any of you guy know where I can get this give me a holler.

Lastly the mineral foundation. This works very well on the skin but at most it can only give you a light to medium coverable. In all the numerous brands that I’ve tried I’ve yet to find one that can give me a medium to full coverage. Overall this particular once gives a nice natural look to your face but if and ONLY IF you find the right shade. Otherwise what happens is that you face will either look must lighter or darker than your neck and it will be quite obvious. The other that I find tedious and time consuming about mineral foundation is that if you want to change the coverage and the durability *how long the foundation will actually last on your face* you would need to spend a whole lot of money buying the tinted moisturizer (base 1) and the special base (base 2) and I have found to my dismay that these does not come cheap.

Because regardless of the basis needed for the mineral foundation, you still need to add on the primer for your face and eye.

All right people, I hope this blog is informative.

I will try and put up a blog on concealers as well as soon as I can. Cheers!

Kiehl's Cryste Marine Firming Eye Treatment [REVIEW]

After a disaster event of trying Kiehl's Line-Reducing Eye-Brightening Concentrate, I still have faith for Kiehl's products. I went back to the shop and told them my problem, the sales girl recommended the Cryste Marine Firming Eye Treatment. Here's the result:

Good:
1. Effectively reduce fine lines within a week.
2. Light texture, non-sticky.
3. Odourless.
4. Pure natural ingredients.
5. Affordable price, RM140, although most eye cream in the market are quite expensive.

Not so good:
1. Doesn't help much on reducing dark circles although it claims so.
2. Need to use constantly. Once you stop using it you can feel that the under eye area lost a little bit of elasticity and fine lines appearing visibly.

Verdict:
Worth trying. Will use this in long run.
